This week’s featured song story comes to us from Elias Dummer. We’re excited to share with you the story behind his song “Enough.”
“I helped to plant a church in a neighborhood that is fairly well off, one of the wealthiest areas in the country. And I found out after talking to the youth pastor at my church that they also have the 2nd highest teen suicide rate. There’s something about that that is really telling. We’re constantly told in our society that we have to have more money, have to make something, have to do something that matters and accomplish things. And at the same time, we’re told oh you’re enough just as you are. You’ll find your real substance and meaning just as you are. And I think neither thing really rings true for people and it certainly didn’t for me. So this song was a response to that. It’s this sense of moving from the messages we’re told by culture and society that you’re only as good as what you make or what you do and to say that those aren’t true. That Jesus is enough. And we can find our substance and worth in Christ.” – Elias Dummer

“Enough” Lyrics
Verse 1
I am not what I make
I am who You have made me to be
I am not what I’ve done
I am loved unconditionally
I am not loved by the measure
Of love that I bring
I am not who I know
I am known by the King of all Kings
Chorus 1
Jesus, You are enough
Jesus, You are enough for me
With nothing, I still have everything
Jesus, You are enough for me
Verse 2
You are maker, made visible
Holding the world in your hands
You are patient and merciful
Giver of grace without end
Satisfied simply by being who you?ve always been
You are infinite love
And You prove it again and again
Bridge
In You I am created
In You I am sustained
With You I’m resurrected
You overcame the grave
With you I stand in victory
Now what else could I need?
With You I want for nothing
Jesus my everything
