“I had the idea for this song two years ago while at a retreat for missionaries. Many of them were reporting first hand stories of refugees pouring into their communities – fleeing war in Syria or oppression in Myanmar and other places in the world. On the news there were countless images of overcrowded boats washing up on the shores of Greece and Italy. I wanted a way for Ruby and I to remember the number of people who are on the road, displaced and wandering on any given night. There are more displaced peoples right now than any other time in history, and I want to be in the number who are responding in love – both in person in my community, and in my music – to push back against the dehumanizing language and actions that so many refugees are met with.” – Sara Groves
