This week’s featured album story comes to us from Amy Grant. We’re excited to share with you the story behind her Christmas album Tennessee Christmas.
When I was in college there was five generations alive in my family and at the holiday meal, you would see all five of those generations. All of us get nostalgic at Christmas time cause we’re thinking “oh gosh remember that room full of people, remember that cup of tea with my grandmother.” But that’s what you’re doing, you’re remembering a time that doesn’t exist anymore. I really wanted to incorporate that sentiment on this Christmas record.
I think as I’ve been exposed to more people’s Christmas experience I’ve realized how rare my family experience was. I’m so much more aware that a lot of people face the holidays alone and I think that feeling and also just the change of life, loved ones pass on. My intention for the record was not to create some scenario that somebody looking on would go “oh wow I wish I lived that life,” but let’s hold a space for all of the sadness that’s a real part of life and then kind of invite into that space the good news, peace on earth goodwill to men. – Amy Grant
