Wednesdays In The Word With Lara Landon: A Life That Will Stand + CD Giveaway!

Lara Landon leads us in this week’s devotional from Matthew 7, about the wise man who builds his house on the rock. Scroll down to see her encouragement about building a life that will stand & see how you can enter to win her new CD “Overcome!’

Matthew 7:24-27 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

What is the rock in this story? I used to think that it meant God. That if you build your house on God that when hard times come you’ll stay standing. And that is true- God is the rock. But, if you pay attention to the wording of this it says, “Whoever hears these words of mine, and does them, will be like a wise man who builds his house on the rock.”

I’m challenging myself, and I want to challenge you to re-visit the teachings of Jesus and take them for what he’s saying to us right now in this moment. Refresh teaching about what he’s actually telling us about the values and specifics he wants us to live by, so that our life will be built on them, and we’ll have that strong foundation. -Lara

Luke 12:32-34 – “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” A great reminder that I need to focus less on the material things of this life and focus more on the heavenly things, like serving others. I also just like the way in which the Savior address us: “Little flock.”

John 8……no matter what our sin is…..if we repent Jesus will forgive us and tells us to “Go and sin no more”.

Acts 20:24. It says this: “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” I think it’s such a good reminder that we need to run the race every day, and to remember our life should be worth nothing to us. We need to be willing to lay down our lives for someone else as Christ did for us. God bless!

This week I’ve been reading, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct[a] your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Isaiah 38:3 – Remember O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served single-minded, always doing what pleases you.

“Cause me to hear your lovingkindness in the morning; for in you do I trust: cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto you.” Psalm 143:8

I’m reading the Bible verse by verse, and this week I’m studying Ezekiel 11 to Ezekiel 20.

      Ezekiel 2:3-7
3 He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day. 4 The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ 5 And whether they listen or fail to listen —for they are a rebellious people —they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people. 7 You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious.

I went to 8 Days of Hope this past week and this verse was totally helpful. It talks about not getting discouraged when rebellious people may not want to listen to the word of God. It also talks about him going to a dangerous place. God tells him that he has every reason to be afraid but that he shouldn’t be. “Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions.” This was so amazing to me! God is saying that he will be in danger but not to be afraid because He will provide. God is so good!

Psalms 8:3 & 4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
