This week we are highlighting the work of Darlene Zschech in the African country of Rwanda. As a result, we are giving 3 people a “Hope: Rwanda” package including a T-shirt, Darlene Zschech “Change Your World” CD, and a poster to go along with it!
As a result of the 1994 Genocide, Rwanda is still struggling to get back on it’s feet. Here are some of the statistics:
– Orphans: 15% of children are orphaned because of the genocide
– Aids: 2% of the population are AIDS orphans because of the genocide
– Women: 250,000 women were raped during the genocide.
– Life Expectancy is only 39 years.
– Income: 85% of the population live on less than 2 dollars a day.
Darlene Zschech and her husband, Mark, saw the need in Rwanda and felt they had no choice but to respond. They have partnered with Compassion International and founded their own organization: Hope: Rwanda.
