Special Live Performance From The Choir & Sixpence None The Richer + A Brand New Single

Since we love this song “After All” so much from The Choir’s latest album, “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard” we wanted to share the band’s great new live performance video with you from a recent jam session they had with Leigh Nash and Matt Slocum of Sixpence None the Richer. Not only that, but The Choir just released a brand new song this week on iTunes that you’ll want to check out as well.

On July 22nd, the band members all went into the studio to record, produce, mix and finish an entire song in one day. They were joined by a group of remarkable friends from all over the US and Canada to share in the experience. They hosted a Nashville weekend hang out that included a barbeque, swimming, private concert and a lot of swell conversations. And even if you missed out on all the fun, you can still enjoy the great new song that came out of that weekend – “Shadow Of The Cross.” Click here to go preview the new single “Shadow Of The Cross” on iTunes and download it now!

The Choir Releases New Record Today + A Free Album Download On NoiseTrade!

After three decades together, iconic alternative rock band The Choir releases their 14th studio album, “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard,” today! As one of the few bands left standing from the 1980’s SoCal music movement wave that swept nationwide more than 30 years ago, The Choir continues to make their renowned atmospheric music married to lyrics stirred by life’s inspirational lessons in the context of real relationships – love, despair, light, dark, hope, and recovery.

The project’s title of The Loudest Sound Ever Heard is taken from the infamous volcanic explosion on the Indonesian island of Krakatoa in the late 19th century. “A quick Wikipedia search revealed that to this day the event is considered to be “the loudest sound ever heard,” Drummer/lyricist Hindalong explains. “I referred to that tragic occurrence in the first verse of the song ‘I’m Learning to Fly,’ which is thematically central to the album. It’s about living each day like it truly matters. ‘Living to love in a dying world.’ Such catastrophic events remind us of our vulnerability, and how we ought to celebrate every breath.”

The final song on the album, ‘After All,’ features a stunning duet with Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer. “We’ve known Leigh since way back,” says Daugherty, “She’s a friend and one of my favorite singers ever. We’re thrilled that she was able to sing on this project. Matt Slocum [Sixpence guitarist] also played cello on a couple of songs. Those guys are great.”

To celebrate the release their new CD, the band is giving away a free download of our last album, “Burning Like The Midnight Sun,” on Noisetrade.com for 1 week only!  The download also includes one of their new songs, “Cross That River.”  Visit www.noisetrade.com/thechoir to get it now!

“I’m so glad we get to keep doing records like this. Here we are standing together 30 years down the line and we still love and respect each other. It’s amazing, really.” –Dan Michaels

“We are fortunate to have such devoted listeners after all these years. That’s what keeps us motivated to continue making music. In that way we are lucky and blessed, and I’m thankful.” –Derri Daugherty

“We don’t pretend to have the answers. We are still struggling, still wandering and seeking; but if our music inspires listeners to consider important things with open hearts, well, that’s a good thing. Hopefully, the spirit of love will stir within and the truth will resonate.” -Steve Hindalong

The Choir

Choir-Cover-300x304

We’ve got a special treat for you this week in the ‘free downloads’ section from a legendary band that’s been making music for almost 3 decades! The critically-acclaimed group, The Choir, continues to garner praise and accolades – including a Grammy nod — long after most other bands have burned out or faded away. They recently put out their 12th studio album, “Midnight Sun” and have allowed us to give away the title track for free this week! (It was my favorite on the album so I specifically asked for it)

There’s also a really cool story behind the album cover that complements this beautiful new music. New Orleans-based visual artist, R.R. Lyon, is known for using salvaged or reclaimed pieces of his own art that he re-contextualizes to give new purpose, and he created a special work of art for the band. Literally- I got to see the original piece of work before it was scanned into a computer to use for the CD cover and it was huge and awesome. Apparently the artist received bits and pieces of music and lyrics from The Choir as they were working on their album, and used that to come up with the piece.

You can pick up a copy of their album today on iTunes HERE, and learn more about the band and their music at TheChoir.net

I saw this video from The Choir floating around on YouTube after the Nashville flood happened, and it’s definitely worth checking out. It’s set to their song “Mercy Will Prevail” and has some pretty compelling images. Check it out below, and enjoy your free song this week!
