Christmas Cooking With Todd Agnew

ToddImage_330x200

Todd Agnew is a man of many colors- He’s been known for his music, and teaching, but who knew he had more skills to whip out. He recently recorded a special blog post to answer a huge question that we all ask ourselves after a typical Thanksgiving Holiday weekend…

What do you do with all of the leftover turkey?!?

Lucky for me, I visited family out of town for Thanksgiving and got to leave all the food behind when I travelled home :) But for many of you out there scratching your head’s about how you’re going to fit one more container of leftovers in your fridge- this might be useful for you. Watch Todd’s instructional video below for a step by step guide to making “Curried Turkey Salad” or go to his website to get the written recipe! www.ToddAgnew.com

P.S. We have a FREE Christmas song from Todd this week – Click Here To Go Get It Now You can also hear Todd talk about the story behind it and how he prepares for Christmas.

“Light Up The Sky” Is Almost Here, But Get A Free Song Today!

BlackandWhite_330x200

Well, ladies and gentleman. I’m excited to announce that our countdown to some super-amazingly awesome new music is nearing an end. The Afters’ album “Light Up The Sky” is only 7 days away from being available to the world, BUT the band is giving us a special treat this week- a Free Track From The Record!! As I’ve mentioned before, I love this album and don’t want you to miss out, so go get your free song now :)

The song is called “Life Is Sweeter” and Josh told us a little bit about the meaning behind it below-

“Life is Sweeter” was the first song that Matt and I wrote with our new bandmates, Dan and Jordan. We lost some people really close to us last year. Our manager and friend David Lipscomb passed away after a 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer and our drummer Jordan’s lifelong best friend Ron McClelland passed away unexpectedly of unknown reasons. Losing the people that we love is one of the harder things in life. Writing this song and looking at the other side of life and death was a sort of closure for us. It’s comforting to know that death is not the end, but rather the beginning. -josh

Also, in case you missed it- here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes with The Afters

Next week we’ll be celebrating the release of “Light Up The Sky” with a full album stream, so be sure to check back on Tuesday to hear the rest of the record!

Laura

P.S. We sent out some copies of “Light Up The Sky” to our lucky “Win It Before You Can Buy It” contest winners last week, but we’re also drawing a couple more today so be sure to check your email to see if it’s you! ;)

Phil sat down to tell us a little bit about his single “In My Love” -

This song really is about the faithfulness of God. It’s about the promises that he gives us to hold onto in difficult times, which in varying degrees, we go through every single day of our lives. Especially, I love the promises that come strait from the mouth of Jesus when he says, “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” He says, “I’ll be with you always, until the end of the age. I’ll never leave you or forsake you.” He gives us these amazing promises that, we as his church, need to hold onto in hard times and in good times. I saw these promises first hand over the last few months when a very, very dear friend of mine lost his wife to cancer. She battled it for 3 ½ years, and it’s the first time me or my wife have known someone so close that we’re not going to see anymore in this life. This song was born out of watching these people and everyone involved leaning and standing on the promises that God gives us. It’s about the faithfulness of God, that he is true to his word- and that whether we’re going through cancer or stuff that’s way less intense but still challenging- it’s a song to remind us that God’s word is true, and the rock that we can stand on.

The Choir

Choir-Cover-300x304

We’ve got a special treat for you this week in the ‘free downloads’ section from a legendary band that’s been making music for almost 3 decades! The critically-acclaimed group, The Choir, continues to garner praise and accolades – including a Grammy nod — long after most other bands have burned out or faded away. They recently put out their 12th studio album, “Midnight Sun” and have allowed us to give away the title track for free this week! (It was my favorite on the album so I specifically asked for it)

There’s also a really cool story behind the album cover that complements this beautiful new music. New Orleans-based visual artist, R.R. Lyon, is known for using salvaged or reclaimed pieces of his own art that he re-contextualizes to give new purpose, and he created a special work of art for the band. Literally- I got to see the original piece of work before it was scanned into a computer to use for the CD cover and it was huge and awesome. Apparently the artist received bits and pieces of music and lyrics from The Choir as they were working on their album, and used that to come up with the piece.

You can pick up a copy of their album today on iTunes HERE, and learn more about the band and their music at TheChoir.net

Click here to go get your free download of “Midnight Sun”

I saw this video from The Choir floating around on YouTube after the Nashville flood happened, and it’s definitely worth checking out. It’s set to their song “Mercy Will Prevail” and has some pretty compelling images. Check it out below, and enjoy your free song this week!

Living The Summer Life

Summer is the best time of the year; school’s out, we get to go on fun vacations, there’s outdoor movies in the park and fruit just tastes better.

I don’t know about you guys, but I love having a new music for the summer. There are certain songs I listened to for the first time during a summer that now whenever I hear it, I associate that song with that summer of my life. Isn’t that cool how music has the power to do that?

FreeCCM CD Closet GiveAwayFreeCCM wants to help you do that too, so were giving away EVERY CD IN OUR CLOSET! That’s like over 50 CDs, all you gotta do is be on our email list (sign up here) and you’re eligible to win. You can read more about it here.

And if you’ve been busy finishing the last season of Lost dvds, or maybe you’ve been in line the last few weeks for the new iPhone and you haven’t had time to see what going on in the world. No worries, keep enjoying summer because we’ve got you covered. Some of our favorite artists have been enjoying their summers and we want you to know what their up to!

Take a look at their whereabouts and let us know who you think is having the best summer.

Bart Millard from MercyMe has been shopping for a new dining room table. Michael from Building 429 hasn’t had time to go grocery shopping, so he figured he could just grab a couple fish from the pond to eat.
table Owly Images
Derek Webb has been making homemade popsicles, which they naturally call “Rocksicles.” Skillet figured since they didn’t have time to shoot fireworks off  this weekend that they would just light them off during their show last night.

BTW: You may be thinking this sounds nothing like Laura or Rachel. And that’s cause your right! My name it Tyler and I’m the new intern here at FreeCCM. I’ll be posting every now and then and try to keep you guys up to date with what all our favorite artist are up to. If you have anything you want me to write about that you’ve been afraid to ask Laura or Rachel the “real bloggers” about, drop a comment and I’ll come up with an answer for ya. Sic ‘em Bears.

All You Want To Know From Addison Road Plus A Free Song!

AddisonRoadPR3_330x200

Hey everyone,

We have some exciting new music for you this week from Addison Road’s upcoming release “Stories.” Their new album is only a couple weeks away, but they’ve decided to let you get a taste of it now by giving away a free track! The song is called “Change In The Making” and it’s an amazing song that speaks from the hopeful perspective of a life under construction, and how God can use a series of hard life events to make His children better.

This is redemption’s story, with every step that I’m taking
Every day, You’re chipping away what I don’t need
This is me under construction; This is my pride being broken
Every day, I’m closer to who I’m meant to be;  I’m a change in the making

The members of Addison Road have been on a roller coaster ride of changes over the last year for sure. You can check out the video below to see what all they have been up to, and hear some more music from the new album, but Jenny summed it up well here: “We’ve had to grow up. Life happened. But I don’t want to level off and end up in a life of complacency. I want God to be doing new things and healing old wounds and making me into this beautiful work of art.”

Now is your chance to ask Addison Road any question in the world, and win a copy of their new album before it hits stores!

Addison Road will be making an appearance on our blog in a few weeks just to answer your questions, so we want to hear from you!  Leave a comment on this post with yours, and we’ll randomly pick 5 for the band to answer, PLUS we’ll send the winners a special pre-release of the album before anyone else gets it!

MercyMe Could Make History With Your Help!

MercyMePRImage_330x200

As you may have heard MercyMe’s long-awaited album “The Generous Mr. Lovewell” is out in stores everywhere now, and we’ve got some even more exciting news. They have the potential to hit #1 on Billboard, which has only ever happened once before from a Christian artist. The band is so pumped about it that they are planning to give away a free bonus song to everyone if they reach #1!

Want to help MercyMe become the 2nd Christian artist in history to hit the #1 spot on Billboard? Here’s how you can:

(1) Tell all your friends about the album on Twitter, Facebook, email, phone, shouting in the streets…ok, that might be a stretch :) but you get the gist. We created a tweet in less than 140 characters, which is tough to do, so we thought we’d help you out by passing it along.

Tweet suggestion: Help @mercyme be the 2nd Christian band ever to debut @ #1 & band will give away new song! Get “The Generous Mr. Lovewell”! Please RT!

(2) Buy the album! There are dozens of websites streaming the entire album today if you want to listen through it first.  In fact, Tangle has a video streaming of the album so we have embedded that below if you just want to stay here and listen.

On a different note, “The Generous Mr. Lovewell” is all about encouraging us to love each other well with the love of Christ, and the band has launched a new website in hopes that it will allow people to connect and share their stories about it. Click here to visit MrLovewell.com and tell us how you have been loved well! They’ve also partnered with some awesome websites like HearItFirst.com, Tangle.com, & WorshipLeader.com to bring you more opportunities to love. Visit each site link above to for details.

If you live in Nashville, we hope that you have stayed safe through all of the flooding. All of us here at FreeCCM and INO are lucky to have escaped any damage, but there are a lot of people who are in need of being “Loved well” so keep them in your prayers!

Thanks guys!

Laura & Rachel
