Lara Landon Gives Away A Free Download & Shares The Heart Behind Her New Album!

We’re excited to introduce a new artist to you this week – Lara Landon, who has a brand new album out today! The record, “Overcome,” is her sophomore project and really speaks of our authority as God’s beloved to triumph over life’s most difficult circumstances. Lara has taken that message on tour and abroad, serving the least of these with New Reality International, the non-profit she and her sister co-founded in 2006.

“Being on the road, sharing my songs with people in different settings, has allowed me to see the real needs they have,” she shares. “ I was able to see how they were hurting, how they needed encouragement, and how God was moving in similar ways all across the world.”

Meeting needs firsthand—whether it be in Haiti on a mission trip or in church singing—is a significant part of the Riverside, California-native’s ministry and has undoubtedly had a profound effect on her. But Lara affirms the depth of her songwriting was most influenced by the three years she spent singing at Nashville’s House of Prayer. “I loved the world that opened up to me at The House of Prayer,” she says. “I never thought I could sing and pray for hours on end. I learned how to make up Scripture songs on the spot, and I began to feel the depth that could come from using God’s Word to pray and intercede.” The songs on her new record reflect Lara’s time spent in the Word and a sensitivity to the needs and diversity of her fans.

The first single “I See God In You,” is a song inspired by her mission trips to Haiti as well as a month spent on a service-based tour that ministered at homeless shelters, bars, women’s rehabilitation centers and churches. Lara comments, “God is everywhere…we see Him in the faith of a child, the strength of a mother that’s battling cancer, the love that was shown by a group of volunteers on a mission trip. We can serve Him by simply opening our eyes to the people He’s placed all around us.”

See Lara tell the full story behind her song “I See God In You” here, and watch the music video! Lara wants to hear your story too about how you see God in others! See how you can send them to her by clicking HERE.

“I wanted this album to truly reflect my heart and, most of all, I wanted to offer it up at every stage to God for His approval. I promised myself, for this project, I would try my best to quiet the voice inside my head that was concerned with what people would think and focus on what I thought God was directing me to do. My desire was that this record, as a whole, would tell a story. I wanted to take people from a place of confronting their humanity and weakness on songs like ‘Better For The Breaking,’ ‘Defenseless’ and ‘Falling’ to being encouraged by tracks like ‘I See God In You.’ Toward the end it’s all about victory and empowerment—I want listeners to literally be declaring ‘we will overcome’ and ‘the spirit of the Lord is upon me’ as they sing along in their car.” - Lara Landon

It’s getting to that place where you realize Christ is your only hope and that if we keep looking into ourselves for the answer, it’s just not there. We have to lay down our life to find real life in Him. – Kevin Young

Wednesdays in the Word with Laura Story episode 2!

The winner has been chosen. Thanks to everyone for the great comments.

Last week, we brought you the first installment of Wednesdays in the Word with Laura Story! Laura has shared from her heart on several chapters from her devotional book, What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops?

This week, Laura shares about Chapter 13 and the Apostle Paul’s “thorn in the flesh.”

Sometimes I have a tendency of thinking that God has left these pains as punishment. Or maybe God just doesn’t care. But God says…”My grace is sufficient for you for strength is made perfect in weakness.”

So, I know for my own life, it’s so hard to understand why God allows us to go through hard things. Even though I don’t have the answers…I do believe that God longs to use our weakness in order for his holiness…to shine all the brighter through our lives.

What is a time in your life when God used your weakness for His glory? Share your story with us for a chance to win an autographed copy of “Blessings” and a copy of the Laura Story’s devotional book!

Download Sara Groves’ New Single “Open My Hands” For FREE!

This week we have even more free music from Sara Groves! If you liked her free acoustic EP last week, then be sure to get this week’s song “Open My Hands.”  It’s actually the next single from her album “Invisible Empires” and my personal favorite track on the record ;) Check out her video interview below to see the story and meaning behind the song, and scroll down to get it for free!

I had a few co-writes on this last record with Jill Phillips, Andy Gullihorn, and on a song called “Open My Hands” with Ally Rogers who is a great songwriter in Nashville. We were talking about the verse that says “He withholds no good thing from us,” and the puzzlement of that, when you know people in your life that are having difficult times. And she shared with me this devotion by Charles Spurgeon:

“In Psalm 84:11 we read, ‘No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.”’Sir Richard Baker comments, ‘But how is this true when God oftentimes withholds riches, honor, and health of body from men? Though they walk ever so uprightly.’ We may therefore know that honors and riches and bodily strength are none of God’s good things. And the good things of God are chiefly peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Spirit, for wishing of God’s presence, and envisioning his face. These good things God never withholds from the godly.”

I have found this to be true in my own life that even though I might be struggling in other ways, God doesn’t withhold His good things from me. -Sara Groves

HOPE:Global – Darlene Zschech announces new website for Hope:Rwanda

If you’ve been keeping up with FreeCCM for a while, you  may remember last summer when we featured non-profit ministry organizations that Christian artists are involved with.

Darlene Zschech is one of the founders of Hope: Rwanda, a non-profit ministry that is designed to bring hope to the country of Rwanda which was devastated by war.

Hope:Rwanda just announced a rebranding of the website–it is now called Hope:Global! They are expanding their ministry to reach out to people in more places.

Here is what Darlene has to say about it!

“Have you seen our new website!? HOPE: Global/HOPE: Rwanda is now operating from a new and fantastic site: We have re-branded and to go along with that you will notice there’s a new design and feel to our page. Go have a look-see and explore around the pages.”

So check out the new website here! We love what Darlene and the Hope:Rwanda team are doing to spread the Gospel and serve others!

Also, you can pre-order their upcoming book: “Rwanda: Speak. I’m Listening.” This book is a tribute to the stories of those involved in the horrific genocide of Rwanda.

What’s Crafting Wednesday: Faith, Hope, Love Wall Art

This week I made a really cute and easy project to hang on my wall at home!  All you need to make this project for yourself is:

  • foam board
  • box cutter
  • 3 sheets of12x12 scrapbooking paper, colors and patterns of your choice
  • paints (preferably acrylics)
  • small paint brush
  • tacky glue (or another strong glue)
  • spray adhesive
  • 3M strips (to secure work to the wall)

All of these supplies should be inexpensive and easy to find at your local craft store!

Instructions:

  • Using a box cutter, cut 3 12×12 squares out of your foam board. Make sure all edges are straight and neat.
  • Then, spray both the front of the foam board and the back of the scrapbooking paper with spray adhesive and secure the two.
  • Next, paint the words faith, hope, and love, one on each square.  Be sure to leave room at the corners for the squares to overlap.  Feel free to add your own creative flair!
  • Once the paint is dry, use tacky glue to secure the three squares together.
  • Let the glue dry and apply 3M strips to the back of the work to secure it to the wall.  Hang it up and enjoy!

We hope you have been having fun making our “What’s Crafting Wednesday” projects!  If you have an idea of a project that you would like us to do, feel free to let us know!

Wednesdays in the Word with Laura Story

We have chosen the winner. Thanks everyone for your comments!

Not only is Laura Story a wonderful musician, but she is now an author. We have featured her new book “What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops?” several times here on FreeCCM.

Laura has recorded several devotions that can be paired with her book. She offers some great insights into God’s blessings! Watch this video and keep reading for a chance to win a copy of the book and an autographed Laura Story CD.

“This was a king that had everything in the world he could have possibly asked for…and you see even as God has blessed him so richly, his response to having all these things is that eventually these very things turned his heart away from the Lord.

Sometimes I am tempted to buy into that American dream. The big house, the picket fence, the 2.5 kids—whatever that looks like for you! And I buy into this lie that if I just had a little bit more, I would be satisfied. A lot of that I just have to lay before the Lord and realize that God is not going to give me things that I prize over Him. That is not the best thing for my soul!

Truly seek first the kingdom, and all those things will be added to us as we need them.”

What is one of the “things” that turns your heart of away from the Lord like Laura talked about with Solomon? Comment with an answer for your chance to win!
