Here at FreeCCM we want to keep you in the loop on up & coming Christian artists we think you’ll love! Today we are so excited to introduce you to new artist Austin French and his debut single “Freedom Hymn”.
Growing up in small town Georgia, young Austin French dreamed of writing songs that shared his faith and passion for Jesus. Being surrounded by a musical family gave him the opportunity to grow towards that goal. As he began to develop his gifts, Austin began touring while in high school, taking his music to stages, churches, and anyone who would listen. “We would fill up either the church van or my best friend’s suburban and drive, praying that we would make it to the gig’s without breaking down, just to play for 10 people and then do it again every weekend we could” says Austin. There was a passion and calling from God to share music that was rooted in the gospel and there was no stopping Austin from doing everything he could to share it.
At the age of eighteen, Austin began leading at Journey Church in Tifton, Georgia and eventually became their full-time worship pastor. In 2014, Austin French was featured on the ABC TV show Rising Star, where he won the hearts of millions of viewers – including guest judges Ludacris, Ke$ha, and Brad Paisley. Austin French competed his way to the finale, finished as the runner-up on the show, and had the opportunity to share the stage with multi-platinum recording artist, Josh Groban.
After his success on Rising Star, Austin French and his family moved to Florida, where he served as the worship pastor for one year at The Avenue Church in Delray Beach. Austin and his wife Joscelyn moved to Nashville after signing with Fair Trade in early 2017, where he is currently working on his debut album.
We have your first look at the official lyric video for Austin French’s debut single “Freedom Hymn.” Watch it below!
“’Freedom Hymn’ is a song that I need to hear over and over again. It goes back to when I was a kid growing up in church as a minister’s kid, singing hymns every Sunday. One day, I asked something to the effect of, ‘why do we have to sing these old songs every week?’ The answer I received blew me away. I was told that sometimes a song can say the words our hearts want to say but our words fail to. That stuck with me forever and I knew right then one day I wanted to write songs for the church. So I began to serve and lead worship and eventually I became a worship pastor at a small church in Georgia. After a few years, God moved me and my family to Del Ray Beach, Florida. I didn’t know it, but that city is the recovery capital of the world, and that really changed my perspective on a lot of things. I learned really quickly that the recovery community is raw and real and you have to be ok with not being ok. But in that spot… that’s where people met Jesus. ‘Freedom Hymn’ is a song not just for the recovery community of Delray Beach. ‘Freedom Hymn’ is a song for the recovery community worldwide – the church. We’re all recovering from something and we all have a song to sing. John 8:36 says that ‘whoever the Son sets free is free indeed.’ That means we have a song to sing… we have a hymn to sing. We know what the sound of chains breaking in our life sounds like and we know the one who indeed sets us free. We have been set free by Jesus!” – Austin French
